What happened
The night of April 24, 1915, over 250 Armenian community leaders were arrested, departed to the Ottoman Empire, and some put to death. Thousands of Armenian men from the Ottoman army were executed, and then
began a mass deportation of Armenian people deserts in Syria and Mesopotamia. They were made to walk in the desert in dehumanizing conditions and were deprived of life necessities such as food and water. Approximately 1,500,000 Armenian people were killed during this time.
