Addressing the Issue

Turkey denies Ottoman Turkish responsibility for the Armenian Genocide and even enforces article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code which states that individuals in Turkey can be prosecuted for even mentioning the Armenian Genocide. Despite the risks, some Turks are standing up and addressing the issue.

Turkey maintains that Armenian and Turkish historians must discuss the events of 1915 in a historical commission in order to determine whether they constituted genocide.

Other countries have recognized the genocide as well.  France has issued a draft for a law which punished denial of the Armenian genocide. Although it was not passed because it infringes on freedom of speech, it shows how adamantly the government feels about recognizing the genocide.
